Time to continue with the plans outlined below now that the long and busy summer is over and I have time to focus my efforts towards AeroAlaska once again. The URL rewrite is functioning as intended and providing the outcome we had hoped for. If you experience any hiccups with the website during your AeroAlaska experience please let us know what happened and when. I hope everybody had a safe summer and are ready for the coming winter months. - 10/25/2011
More upgrades and changes coming over the next couple of months. First and formost AKTech, AeroAlaska's Hosting partner, will be relocating its Webhosting operation to another location. We will be rolling out some more improvements of the website itself.
Some new/improved features will be...
»Improved Ad category selection
»Image Attachments capability expanded from 10 to 20
»In addition to Hot ads list there will be Bold ads
»Ad list sorting
»A new slide show for images
»Other image handling changes
»General Administration and Client changes
»General coding improvements
»Numerous misc changes/improvements
I will finally be able to address the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) plans that was laid out months ago. The new facility will be able to provide a much needed full URL rewrite with keywords in URL. - 3/24/2011
AeroAlaska is a proud sponsor of the 10th Annual Kenai Peninsula Air Fair & Poker Run on June 5th starting at 8am in Soldotna and ending in Kenai. See Calendar of Events for more info. - 5/1/2010
Upgrade complete. The overall process went well. We have some minor details that still need to be addressed, mostly cosmetic, then I will turn my focus on Search Engine Omptimization (SEO) details. - 3/14/2010
Over the next few weeks we will be internally testing an upgraded version of AeroAlaska. Some new improvements and features such as:
» Sessions handling optimized for better performance.
» Search box removed from bottom and a lighter version placed at the top.
» Optimized paging routine (less trips to the server for certain webpages).
» Better admin tools for site and database maintenance.
» Revised admin pages.
» More search engine optimizations.
» Update for Image upload forms.
» Better upload interface and upload handling.
» Redesigned full ad view pages with small and large thumbs display at the top of the page..
» XML and RSS improvements.
» A number of other improvements throughout the application.
» One I look forward to, any user can be made "trusted" and post ads bypassing the pending ad status.
I will be spending alot of time fine tuning and making improvements related to search engine placement. This will be a long tedious task that will result in great benefits for all members of AeroAlaska. Alaska search results are good yet nationally it has been slowly decreasing and is totally unacceptable at this point in time. We were in the top 3 results for several of the most popular aviation search terms on the net. My fault for not paying close attention to this. I will try to build it back up to the first page of search results once again. - 2/28/2010
A reminder to check your junk and spam folders for AeroAlaska email. Some users are experiencing problems with receiving AeroAlaska email. Hotmail is receiving just fine but some email is ending up in the Junk folder. This is something that is beyond our control and is not uncommon for alot of websites. Hotmail is diligent about anti-spam as are alot of businesses. The new changes to Hotmail that allows you to send and receive email using Outlook and Outlook Express do not show what is in your junk folder unless you log into Hotmail directly. Look in the Junk mail folder for email such as verification codes for new users or replies to ads and right click on them and choose "Not Junk" to allow them to download directly into Outlook Express. I am not sure how other email services such as Live.com, Yahoo or others function. - 10/21/2009
Added a spam filter in the ad creation process to help slow down the posting of junk ads, this should not effect normal use in any manner. There has been an increase in the spam posts as of lately. I spend about 30-45 minutes each day thinning out the crap and suspending accounts. Almost all of it is a repeat of the same old stuff from different people. - 6/18/2009
Added more security with an improved turning number and other security changes with the various contact forms. Turning numbers added to the "Contact Us", "Email to a Friend", "Report if this ad is offensive" and "Reply to Ad" forms. I did not like to do this because of the extra steps it takes for people to communicate amongst themselves and with AeroAlaska. We are trying to cut down on the tremendous amount of spam the logs recieve from the abuse of these forms. Why people waste alot of time sending this stuff into the spam filters where a human never even sees it is beyond me. Click on the image of the turning numbers to change it if you have a hard time with a particular color. - 9/1/2008
Changes to support the new Windows version of Safari browser v3.1.1 with its bugs relating to how some HTML elements are not rendered properly have been fixed. - 5/3/2008
New Scam Alert! Updated Fraud Alerts. Please take the time to review and familiarize yourself with the types of fraud and scam attempts that people attempt against AeroAlaska customers and other classified type websites. - 4/26/2008
Added Banner Ad options to the "Gold Package Plus" and "Platinum Package Plus" packages to further enhance their value. - 3/5/2008
Minor changes to the look of AeroAlaska to decrease the "cluttered" appearance of the home page and the view ad page. Hopefully this will make navigation on the home page cleaner and easier. Changed the space on top and below the ad description section of the view ad pages, this was a much needed. - 1/15/2008
Fresh Spam. Updated Fraud Alerts. Please take the time to review and familiarize yourself with the types of fraud and scam attempts that people attempt against AeroAlaska customers and other classified type websites. These actual examples can save you alot of frustration and hassle. For the most part they all follow the same pattern and telltale signs. The best and only real defense is to be educated about what to look for. We hope these help people. - 11/27/2007
We need your help with aviation related events that will be happening in your area for the new Calendar of Events we are creating. This will take the ongoing help of the aviation community to work. Send us any information that you may have, websites or people to talk with. - 11/14/2007
